Something is always happening at Dunwoody Nature Center. Here are just a few of the family events scheduled for Fall 2009.

PARK AFTER DARK   Saturday, September 12, 6 - 8 pm.  Remember how much fun it is to be outside as the sun sets? Bring a picnic for the family, take a lichen walk with Program Manager Vicky Ruth, and check out the night sky with our powerful telescope. Don't forget your flashlight!  Members: $5 per person. General Public: $8 per person.

 Tree Hug Festival

Sunday, October 11, 11 am – 6 pm

DNC Members $8; General Public $10

Make friends with a tree! Genevieve Summers of Dancing with Trees brings all the equipment and training you’ll need to climb high into a huge oak tree. Discovery stations all around the park introduce visitors to the wonders of the forest.  Our oak tree can only hold up to 10 climbers at a time, so call DNC to reserve a timed climbing ticket: 770-394-3322.

Pumpkin Carving

October 19-22, 2 – 4 pm

$5 per person – bring your own pumpkin

Bring your pumpkin to DNC for a fun afternoon of artistic carving.  DNC provides tools, patterns, and a fun atmosphere so you can create your own jack-o-lanterns. (No pumpkins available for sale at DNC.)

 Enchanted Forest

October 23 & 24, 7 -9 pm

DNC Members $8; General Public $10

Experience our park after dark — take a guided tour of our Enchanted Forest, have your face painted, play games, and have your fortune told! Wear your costume – it’s even more fun!

EWWWWW! GROSS! Saturday, November 14, 10 am – Noon.  Get in touch with your yucky side. Learn about animals that eat their own poop. Go on a "scat" hunt. Discover the grosser side of those cute and charming butterflies. Come prepared to get a little dirty. Members: $5 per person. General Public: $8 per person.

Cocoa and Candles

Sunday, November 22, 7 – 9 pm

FREE

Dunwoody Village looks so pretty all a-twinkle – and Dunwoody Park is like a fairyland when luminarias line the trails and boardwalk.  Volunteers from local high schools and merchants help make it magical!   Come to DNC for a night hike, a roasted marshmallow, and a cup of cocoa or coffee right after Light Up Dunwoody. Thanks to our friends at Starbucks and the Key Club at Dunwoody High…This is our gift to the community — admission is FREE for everyone.

GIFTS FROM NATURE   Saturday, December 12, 10 am – Noon.  The materials for memorable gifts and decorative treasures are all around you at Dunwoody Nature Center. Craft reindeer and angels, stars and dolls, miniature wreaths and mantle sprays out of twigs, leaves, gumballs, thistle, berries, and more. We'll have everything you need to make many special keepsakes.  Members: $5 per person. General Public: $8 per person.
